There have been some pretty outrageous skate parks built over the last decade as skateboarding has made the leap from a hoodrat pastime to legitimized sport. This Mountain Dew-sponsored Pinball Machine Skate Park in New Zealand, however, may be the most outlandish to date. Built in only 17 days for an upcoming competition, this park cost almost R3,500000 to create and will remain open for only 3 weeks once the contest is over. A true replica of a pinball machine down to the lights, sounds and launcher at the beginning. Probably a giant waste of money but hey it seems Mountain Dew has plenty to blow and this is a pretty epic idea.
Retna (real name Marquis Lewis,31) a mural artist from Los Angeles is a rising star in the contemporary art world. With his roots in street art he has gone from bombing buses and trains to having his own three continent world tour.
At first glance Retna's captivating pieces look like an undiscovered ancient script But he has in fact created an original alphabet, fusing together influences from ancient Incan and Egyptian hieroglyphics, Arabic, Hebrew, Asian calligraphy, and graffiti. All of his pieces carry a hidden meaning which are encapsulated in his mysterious text.
Heres an 8 day time lapse of a mural that Retna did in association with RVCA and their Artist Network Program.
I think the RVCA Artist Network Program is such a fresh idea, check out the clips below and decide for yourselves!
"The RVCA Artist Network Program, commonly referred to as the ANP, is an ongoing program which aims to showcase the talent of accomplished as well as unknown artists who inspire our generation and push the boundaries of creativity; providing something of substance and culture.
To RVCA, an artist is not someone who just paints a picture, or writes a song, but someone who is dedicated to sharing with the world their life, emotions and soul through innovative and creative ideas. RVCA and the ANP were developed to shake the very foundations of the business, by giving back to the artists and providing a voice for their creative growth."
Five panel caps are definitely a trend too look out for this summer. With these caps posted all over street style blogs and look-books it seems inevitable that they should make their way over to our side of the world for summer 11'.
We can see 'Tyler The Creator' wearing a supreme version of the cap in his massive YouTube hit, Yonkers.
Here are a few 5 Panel's that I reckon are pretty tasty
